Welcome to Expert Village. This is Fran Dukehart. This is called the half-sun-salute, letting the gaze become soft then inhaling, sweeping the arms making a big circle reaching outwards, exhaling, lengthening the spine, lengthening the legs, lengthening the breath, releasing the chin, inhaling lightly lifting outward, exhaling deepening, pulling the navel in, bringing the forehead reach, and keeping the weight instead of letting the weight go to back of the heels, keep the weight forward. You can use a block, or you can use your fingers to help stabilize, and then when you exhale go a little bit deeper, you can have the hands behind the heels if you like. Again, you are pulling the navel inward, and to deepen and energize the pose, you can bend the knees, feel the energy from the center of the body, increasing the stretch through the back of the legs and the low back, and then inhale gently. Pushing the floor down, pushing the earth away and growing upward. Bringing the hands up, big circle, bringing the hands to the center of the heart. So, the idea in half-sun-salute is to feel your breath, allow your breath to move the body. From my center to your center… Namaste.
