Tools for a Clay Planter

Using leaves and clay pieces can be a really good way to get some really interesting effects. You can roll a live leaf right into the clay itself and get all the detail of the actual leaf onto a pot that you're making. In this case, this is a large planter. You see it's just a square. But, then this outer area catches water and there's some holes in the bottom so that you can plant a nice big plant in here. We're going to do this project now on a much smaller scale. But, I'm going to show you the things that you need to have together in order to do this project. First of all, you need some sort of template. In my case, I just used square plates of two different sizes. This was the size for the wall and the larger size was the size for the base. Now, if you don't happen to have square plates you can easily remedy that by using cardboard. And, just using a square to measure out two squares that are just one slightly larger than the other. You're also going to need some leaves. Something hard like drywall board or hardibacker board to be able to transfer your slabs around on and also so that they can dry on there. You're also going to need a bottle in order to do some slip trailing. Which, I'll be demonstrating how to make your slip and how to do the slip trailing as well. And, then of course your water bucket and a couple of tools like a needle tool a wooden knife and a scouring tool. So, now that you've got all your stuff together we'll start the project.
