Hi! This is Mike on behalf of expertvillage.com. For more information about bicycle maintenance please visit Prairie Path Cycles in Winfield, Illinois or visit our website at www.prairiepathcycles.com. In this clip I’m going to be telling you how to tighten up your headset on an inch underneath threadless stem and fork. Now what you are going to want to do first is loosing up the stem bolts and then you’re going to want to do these little bit at a time so not to do one bolt all at once and then the other bolt all at once because if you do that you will have more of a chance of stripping out the threads on your stem. Once you get those bolts nice and loose the only thing you need to do is snug up the top bolt on top of the stem and you do not want to tighten this too much because if you do that you will have a chance of crushing the bearings inside, the way it works is it just snugs it down and it tightens everything up, so once you do that then you can tighten back up your stem bolts and again doing a little bit at a time on each, that way you are not stripping out any other threads and that is how you tighten up your headset.
