How to Play "Heart-Shaped Box" by Nirvana
Hey this is Joe Wiles with the Rock and Roll Conservatory on behalf of Expert Village. Let's do Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box. Let's take a look. Before we begin, I want to make a note that all of our strings are tuned a 1/2 step down, as well as our low E string, which is tuned a whole step and 1/2 down. The tuning goes C sharp, G sharp, C sharp again, F sharp, A sharp, and D sharp. Let's take a look at the song. It starts out with an open A string, 2nd fret D, 2nd fret G. Then we're going to put our, just pad the low three strings on the 3rd fret and then open. OK? Let's put that all together. And right here we're going to do a riff. D string, slide up from the 2nd fret to the 4th. Open A. 3rd fret A. Then, we're going to hit the E and G string open and start over. That riff sounds like this. Then we start over. Put together it goes like this. Work through that a couple of times, that riff can be tricky at first, OK? On our next segment we're going to talk about Van Halen's You Really Got Me, their remake version from the Kinks original.
