Loading a Gas Kiln with Pottery

Hi I'm Betty Ingham on behalf of Expert Village. One of the last steps in the preparation of our pottery is after we glaze it we put it here when we get this whole rack full of glaze pottery plus everyone of these full of glaze pottery then we start loading the gas kiln. Now remember these colors will not be the color that you see now they would be all different. Sometimes we even put fret inside of the glass when it melts it makes beautiful pattern. These just happen to be grapes and we do crosses a lot with melted glass inside of them to melt. When we loaded this kiln we start with a bottom shelf and we always load the flat things first because when you get it up to the top you want to leave that much space to load your taller items so you won't have to push your shelf up so high.
