Pottery: Clay Preparation

Some pieces that you want to make on the wheel might require throwing two separate pieces and then putting them together. An example would be a pot like this, which is actually two bowls, and of them is inverted and connected to the original one. Or, a bottle, and in this case, I threw a base, and I threw a neck separately, and then I'll be connecting those on the wheel. So, I'm going to show you how to make both of these forms, but the first thing I need to do is to prepare my clay. So, in each of these cases, all four pieces I use a pound and a quarter of clay. So I'm going to cut four one and a quarter pound pieces of clay. Using my wire tool. Best way to cut your clay. So there's a pound and a quarter, and I'll pad that together into a ball, and I"ll do that three more times, so that I have four balls ready, and then we'll start the project.
