How to Finesse a Pool Shot

Hi, I'm Michael Lamendola with expertvillage.com and today we're going to shoot some pool. Alright, so here are some shooting tips to keep you sharp when you're playing the game, just certain things to remember. First of all, you want to chalk your stick after every shot. Now, in case I haven't mentioned this before, when you chalk the stick what it does is it reduces friction from the Q to the Q ball when you strike it. So, it's important that every time you shoot, take the chalk, chalk the stick. Second tip, the pool table is a lady, and she likes to be treated gently. So, you don't want to slam her around. Now, of course, every now and then when you're breaking, yeah slam her hard. But, for right now, every other shot, just finesse. You just want to think about shooting the ball with just enough umph to get it into the pocket. Shoot it like that. Now, something else you want to think about is when you're shooting think two shots ahead. So, if I'm solids and I've got the three, the six, and the two if I can make the three, what's my next two shots? Okay, I make the three in that corner pocket, leaving the Q ball here, so I've got the six ball in that pocket and the two ball in that pocket. You kind of want to plan your trip out before you leave. Finally, and this one may seem kind of funny, but if you've got a drink or a beverage, hold it with the hand that you're not making a bridge with, because if you've got moisture on this hand, and this hand is where the stick is going to be riding back and forth on, you're going to create a lot of unwanted friction and it's going to be harder for you to strike the Q ball. And, also, if you want to look tough, don't drink with a straw.
