How to Break when Shooting Pool

Hi! I'm Michael Lamendola with expertvillage.com, and today we're going to shoot some pool. Alright, I'm magically at the other end of the table, and right now I'm about to get ready to break. One thing that I did first...Those of you who own a 2 piece or have bought a 2 piece. I prefer to break with the house cues. Why? I don't like hitting my personal cue that hard. I have seen cues break in the past so I always break with a house cue, but you can do what you want. Now, I've got my rack all lined up, I've got the cue ball directly facing the rack. Some folks like to break from angles. It's up to you. I prefer a dead on break for 8 ball. It's really important, especially when breaking to keep the low on the ball. The last thing you want to do in front of your friends is break and then get really excited and pop up and the ball only go a few inches because they're all going to laugh at you. You don't want that. Keep low on the cue on the cue ball and think of striking through it. This is about the only time I'm going to say this, but hit it as hard as you can. Picture that third grade teacher you didn't like or the girl who stood you up at prom. Me, I've a lot of people that I picture, but that's another subject. So, here we go. Keeping low, striking through the ball, third grade teacher. Now you know you've done pretty good if you've got some of the balls coming over on this side of the table. Me, I'm not that good of a breaker, but this is a pretty good one for me. That's how you break.
