Online Photography Course: Taking Body Shots & Posing Models

Hello, my name is Chris Conklin on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this segment we are going to be talking about different types of body poses. Now there are various types of body shots: there is the full body shot, which basically is head to toe, and then three quarter body shot, which basically is above the knees to the head, a half shot, which is basically from the waist to the head, and then a close up which is basically from the chest to the head, and then a close up which will be primarily the head itself, which is very popular in head shots. Other uses for the body shots would include action, the mood, glamor, the casual aspects, and how to capture action versus candid. One of the things that you have got to be careful with on candid is that candid is supposed to be natural reaction. What you will find is, when you go out to an event and you try to photograph somebody, they’ll try to pose for you, rather than capturing their actual mood, the expression, the drama, the personality that they naturally have for you. So sometimes you have to tell them to go on about business or act naturally. If they do pose for you, then you want to make sure that you get the framing that is actually correct. Remember the rules of thirds, and actually take that image of that person, match it to the background, watch your depth, feel the depth, and again make sure that it coincides with the story that you are trying to tell, as well as the vision that you have created for that particular shot.
