If you're more cross-country orientated rider and you're looking to simplify your drive train from going from three to two chain rings by removing your small chain ring. There's a couple things to do think about when you do that. One thing is that you may be able to go with a shorter bottom bracket spindle. The stock length of your bottom bracket axle is usually a hundred thirteen millimeters. You may be able to swap out to a hundred and ten or hundred and nine or seven depending on the crank that you have, um spindle. This shorter spindle allows you to move your feet closer together, which is more efficient and also get a better chain line. Because you no longer have to worry about clearance with the little chain ring. The other thing to remember is that, if you do change your spindle length and even if you don't change your spindle length, you're going to need to make some changes to how you have your front derailleur adjusted. So, you'll need to change your lower limit, which is the inside limit, to stop where your middle chain ring position is instead to your little chain ring position. Another thing you may have to do, depending on the type of shifter you have, is you may need to adjust your cable tension to only use your number two and number three shifters. So this specific shifter here, its an older shifter, is designed specifically for this two ring application. So instead of just having what we call an index shifter, with like two or three clicks, its got lots and lots and lots of little micro clicks, which basically allows you to use your limits to set your range and then click in between just as you need to get the perfect trim adjustment on your front derailleur. So when your remove that inner change ring just remember you need to adjust your front derailleur and you may be able to get away with changing your bottom bracket spindle to something narrower.
So do you have to use a shorter spindle when going with only 2 chain rings than 3?
