Using Humbucker Pick-Ups in Jazz Guitar

Hello! My name is Dustin, and I am here to talk about the electric guitar pickup. Electric guitars use electromagnetic pickups to catch to the vibration in the string and send out the guitar’s output to an amplifier. The two types of pickups most commonly associated with electric guitars are the humbucker seen here, and the single coil seen here. Now both pickups have the same functions but produce quite different results. The humbucker uses two single coil pickups, wired together, out of phase. This, with a differential amplifier cancels out much of the electric interference that plagues single coils. It also gives the humbucker thicker, richer, warmer sound. Here is the difference between the single coil sound and humbucker sound, here is the single coil…and a humbucker…now there are humbuckers designed for every type of sound, from bright and harsh, to dull and flat. Jazz humbuckers tend to be voiced with a rich, even tone with median output, so that clean chords come through nice and clear, without mud.
