How to Install CD DVD ROM Drives

Hi! I’m James Adams I’m here on behalf of expertvillage.com, I’m going to talk about CD, CD ROM installing and DVD ROM installation. So now we need to identify where the cable for the CD-DVD ROM drive goes. We have here three connectors they’re right next to each other. The short one is for floppy I showed you earlier. Then the tall ones are for CD ROM’s and hard drives. The one thing you want to do is look at the board. the area right around the connectors. and you’ll find some white letters explaining what each connector is. In this case, there’s white writing right there it says FDD for floppy drive. There’s one that says IDE1 that’s for the first IDE channel, and then there’s one saying IDE2 which is for the second IDE channel. IDE1 master is always set for the hard drive that you’re going to use. Like let’s say you have windows in your hard drive, that hard drive has to be on IDE1 master. So that spot is taken so there’s not an option. It’s common practice 99% of the time if you install a CD ROM drive you want your cable on IDE2. You take your cable, remember I explained about the long end of it and the short end You take it and right there there’s a little notch. That notch is keyed with the one on the board so you take it and you connect it and that’s it. So now you need to identify the power connector for the CD ROM drive. The one that the CD ROM drive uses is the accessing generic white one that you probably see all over your case. Also, if you look at it it’s keyed so there is no wrong way to plug it in wrong. It will not go any other way than the correct way.
