Reacting to Your Dog when Goes to the Bathroom in the House

Hi! This is Elise McMahon from Expert Village.com and in this video series we are talking about house training your dog. If you would like to find out more about my services, you can visit my website at canineheadstart.com. So we are going to be talking about what to do after the fact. Let’s say you’ve had your puppy out loose and it’s in the living room. You walk into the living room and your puppy is over there sleeping calmly. You go to say hi to the puppy and as you walk by, you see there’s a mess on the floor. You were not watching, the puppy came into the living room and took a pee on the floor and then fell asleep. What do you do? Besides cleaning up right away my suggestion is that you go get a newspaper, roll it up, make it nice and firm, go to the spot of the accident, take your newspaper and you bang yourself on the head with the rolled up newspaper. This was your as the owner’s fault. This was not the puppy’s responsibility. You were not paying attention to the puppy. They had too much space, they didn’t get to be taken outside, the puppy is over here asleep and you cannot punish the puppy for this accident. This is your accident as the owner.
