Tips for Exit Speed in Mountain Biking Cornering

MICKEY DENONCOURT: A lot of the time we're riding downhill, especially with a lot of slinked, tight corners, especially if we're reducing radius, your--to keep your exit speed up which is ultimately the most important, because I mean, you know, the final exit speed's the exit speed before the finish line, you want to keep your speed going the whole time. To keep your exit speed up, you often need to slow down a lot more than it seems like you should to get through the corners. So, if I just went full blast through all of these sections, and just road my bike all of the way through the corners, so I wasn't sticking to corner anymore, I'll be blowing out all of these corners, having to get on my brakes, and I want to be coming out of them, as fast as I'm coming out them, instead I'm going progressively faster to each corner, by slowing down enough to get some of the good line coming up. And, as I ride to these section to turns, you'll see that, you know, my speed does increase coming from each corner, 'cause I come out of it, in a good spot to get to the good line for the next corner build after that, and after that. So, you know it's a combination of all sources of different techniques. But just remember that, you know, when it's a tight corner, its way more important to get out it fast, than it is to get into it fast.
