How to Care for Adult Dog Teeth

Hi this is Elise McMahon with ExpertVillage.com and in this video series we are going to be talking about dog tooth care. If you would like to find out more about my services you can visit my website at www.canineheadstart.com. So in this short clip here we are going to be taking a look at an adult mouth. So we did already look at puppy teeth and we are going to take a look at adult teeth here. We have got Tai, a 4 year old male; he is actually the daddy of the dog that you just looked at. And we are going to be taking a look at his teeth, so we can look at them from the side and you can see his canine is much larger than the puppy that we just saw and he has got all of his teeth in the back. You can see here – wait Tai, they are quite large and he has got a full set of teeth here. Maybe not so easy to see with all of his hair, but you can see his teeth going all the way back. In the back what they have are carnassial teeth, carnassial teeth are for sheering and grinding. These guys are carnivores, actually they are in the family carnivore but they are omnivores, they will eat everything. So most canis dogs in the wild will eat insects and fruit and vegetables, they also eat meat and crushed bone. So they have got these specialized teeth in the back to aid in the crushing of bone and the tearing of meat. They do not use the incisors very much and you can see the incisors are smaller, these are the teeth here in the front and the incisors are smaller than say a horse or a cow which use their incisors to pick grass, so they use those teeth more than they would the back ones.
