How to Tie a Variety of Boating & Nautical Knots

Hi my name is Dan and I'm here with Expert Village. Today we are going to talk about boating knots and a number of different methods of tying ropes together, splicing, tying decorate knots, lashing and whipping which we would get into more detail with in a few minutes. Aside from being a sailor I also use a number of knot tying books to help with my research. Books like this often have full color drawings and illustration to help you learn how to tie this knots. As with any knot before to be put to practical use it is best to try it out and tie it a number of times and get comfortable with it before it is needed in a dyer situation. Many of the knots I'm going to talk about have applications beyond boating. You may see them on my other knot segments. So check them out.
