Managing Appliance Water Usage for Conservation Tips

Hi! I'm Cathi Pare with the City of Santa Barbara Water Resource Department speaking to you today for expertvillage.com. We've gone around the house a little bit, we looked at how to find leaks and now we are looking at different ways to use the new latest technology to help you conserve water. Some of the best things out there now days are new appliances. As expensive as they are, they definitely save water and save energy. Right now we are looking at a high efficiency front loading washer. These new washers use between 35 and 50 percent less water than your original top loading washer because of the centrifugal force in the way that they ring things out and go through the rinse cycle, you can dry in half the amount of time so you are saving water and you are saving gas and energy in the drying aspect of it. There are some other different things to look at as well. There is hot water recirculating pumps and there is also hot water on demand systems to use for that far far shower that you have to wait 5 minutes for. Give me just a second and we will take you over to the hot water pump and we will show you one of those.
