It's not clear to me whether the instructor does not understand "English" and how to use it, or whether he is just very bad at explaining it.

Left Hand English: How to Play Pool for Beginners

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Richard Buccola and I am going to introduce you to Pool 101. The next shot is left hand English where I am going to hit the ball on the left hand side of the cue ball making the 3 ball but the cue ball is going to come off this rail and come this way. All these shots are used just to set up position for your next shot. We are going to talk a little bit about basic shot making but let’s just stick with the left hand English. So we are going to go dead center, a little bit to the left and we are still going to hit that 3 ball in the same spot causing the cue ball to go to the left of the rail and that’s your shot. So let’s talk about when we come back about basic shot making and we are going to turn around and go over just some basic shots and see what we could do to execute them and to make shots easy.
