Utilizing Different Rules to Vary the Game of Stratego
Hi! This is Ken and I’m here today to talk about Stratego, a basic board game like chess. Now, there are variations to the game from the rules I’ve been talking about. One variation is that only the attacker has to declare what his piece it. So, if I go over here and I’ve got like a 9 and I attack you, and you’ve got an 8. Let’s say I have a 7 and you’ve got an 8. Well I don’t have to tell you what the piece is, I can just say it’s one, and not have to take it off the board. Unless it’s been beaten. The advantage of that is that makes the game harder for the opponent to know what the other pieces are there, to find out where the marshal and the spy is, and all those other pieces. So, that’s one variation. Another variation is when I get to the back row with one of my pieces, instead of attacking another piece; I have the option of placing that piece with a higher-ranking piece. So, that’s anther variation of the game. Another variation is that the scouts and the minors don’t work in the same way that we’re accustomed to them. We can take away some of their functionality.
