Hi! I am Dr. Adrienne Mulligan and I am the owner of Camp Verde Veterinary Clinic and I am here today on behalf of expertvillage.com to talk to you about cat first aid and administration of medications. Now, we have talked a lot about all of the kidney diseases and problems and things that we run into with cats and I just wanted you to know that as with people many cat diseases, many cat problems can be prevented or at least improved and helped by the proper diet and while diets from your veterinarian are going to cost a little more, if you are thinking about it as a health food, as a food that is a medicine, then it makes sense to spend the extra money. If I have a disease, that I have to eat all foods from the new frontiers, well then I have to go and spend the money for organic food, it is going to cost me more than if I go to some other grocery store and buy non-organic foods. So it is going to cost more to eat right, no matter what you do, so there are diets designed for things like… this is a weight loss formula in cats and obesity we have already learned can lead to diabetes and so weight control is extremely important. High factor is designed to help cats with bowel problems that can help with diarrhea or constipation either way, it is a high fiber formula. We have the modified diet which already we have talked about for cats with renal failure, this a low protein diet, so that it gives the kidneys less protein they have to break down and worry about. This is the urinary diet that really helps male cats and female cats in their dealing with the feline urinary tract disease syndrome and then these two diets are new diets. These are basic diets for the everyday cat after they get neutered or spayed and these have been worked on and proven to prevent your cats from getting fat after they have been spayed and neutered, so these are gold mine for your cat to avoid ever becoming fat in the first place after they get neutered and then what other formulas are for allergies, this is a hypoallergenic diet and there are many more diets that can treat many more diseases or prevent many more diseases and so I just wanted to stress that medicines and things are good but when it all comes down to it, diet is the place to start.
