Flag Setting Strategies in Stratego

Hi! This is Ken and I’m here today to talk about the basics of Stratego. I’m just going to talk a little bit about some of the strategy for setting hiding up the pieces. Now, basically when we start off we have this little castle that divides both sides so that other opponent can’t see where you’re putting your piece. I’m going to take that aside so you can see what I’m doing. The first thing I start with is I have to decide where I’m going to hide the flag. Now, I’m not going to put the flag, which is represented by here, up towards the front because I don’t want it easily captured. Usually I put the flag somewhere in the back row, in the corner, or right here on the side. Let’s just say this one of the most common places to put it is right here, and I usually surround it by bombs; this protects the flag. So here I’ve got my flag, and these pieces would be turned around so we couldn’t see what they were, but I’ve got it totally protected by the bomb. So anybody that comes in to try to get to the flag, like say I’ve got the marshal right here, and he comes in and he goes what that. I say bomb, he’s blown, he’s taken off the board. Thank you.
