How to Adjust the Counterweights for Center of Gravity Butterfly Experiment

Hi I'm Scott Thompson for expertvillage.com, and today I'm going to demonstrate a center of gravity activity using balancing butterflies. After you get that in place, then it is your chance to see how close you are with your placement of the weights. You can turn the butterfly over, put your finger out, and see how it adjusts. I'm going to have to adjust those weights a little bit; I can tell because of the butterfly is pulling on one side. So this tells me that this weight has to be moved further out or this weight further in into the body. Then it is just a matter of playing around with it until you get it just right. That helped a little bit. I'm going to slide this weight in some. We are getting closer. This is a good time to talk to the students about patience and how to keep trying, it would work for them. There, it is working out pretty good. So that is balancing butterflies.
