Preparing the Plastic Bottle for Bernoulli's Experiment

Hi! I'm Scott Thompson from expertvillage.com and today I am going to demonstrate Bernoulli's theorem using a soda bottle and a ping pong ball. The first step is to take the bottle that you have selected—and it depends on how old the kids are, if this is a classroom setting, to how much work ahead of time that you want to do to get this ready for them; but even third grader's can handle this pretty easy. You could take a marker and mark a line for them all the way around the bottle. Perhaps ahead of time, with a sharper scissors, poke a little starter hole to give them a head start on it, and have them start cutting with their scissors all the way around. You want to end up with a simple little funnel shaped end of that bottle. They are real cheap. If you can get them out of a recycle bin; you can have one for every student in the class, and they will get a big kick out of using this.
