Hi welcome back I'm Pete Perata here at Expert Village and learning how to shuffle. Now we are going to talk about proving the deck. It is important to make sure that you are playing with a full deck. Now when you get a deck - I prefer Bicycle - but any deck that you use, you want to make sure that you have all 52 cards in order to play. So we are now going to talk about proving the deck. You have your deck of cards and if it is in the box you are going to need a knife probably to get rid of this label right there. Slice through the label and pull your cards out. Set the box aside. If you need to, remove the jokers if you have the two. Now prove the deck by spreading it from left to right, and going through the deck with your finger to make sure that you have each card. Your spades, queen of spades, jack of spades, you should have 4 of each card as you run through the four suits. In order to wash the deck you want to turn the cards face down like this and mix them up on the table. This randomizes the cards by putting some cards over others and yet putting other cards under others. After you have wash the cards with your palms you could square them back up by gathering the cards into a pile. A faster way is to gather the pile, set them on edge, and then use your thumb in a rowing motion like this. I'm simply using my thumb to roll the cards over against the table and pushing them back in to the greater stock. This squares up the pack quiet nicely and set the pack face down in front of you. The deck has been washed.
