Hi! This is Chris and on behalf of expertvillage.com in this clip we are going to talk about backpacks in relation to beginning hiking. Now before me I have two back packs the smaller of the two represent a day pack. A day pack would have all the necessities for at least a day hike, but in my case I like to take a few things along preparation encase there is a emergency. Now everything that is in your day pack would eventually transfer into your overnight pack as well as having other compartments for further needs for over night stays. This is my day back, my hydration is built into the pack many of them won't be but in this case I take a minimum of 3 litters per day on any hike that I go on. As well contained in my day pack would be a few standard items. 1 would be a wind breaker in synthetic material to keep off wind and rain. I also keep a fleece in here which is a emergency fleece encase I get wet or need some extra layering. I carry gloves and a hat at all times in my day bag. Including in my day bag also would be a flashlight encase I do get stuck out after dark I can move on with my flashlight as well. I carry a stove in my day pack, I'm able to heat water or make food with this on any part of the location of my trip. I carry as well utensils for cooking in my day pack. Once again all this would transfer to my over night pack which we would move onto now. With the over night pack it is going to be a larger, better support system with the idea of actually doing a more strianous hike this would provide your room for a sleeping bag also room for padding and blankets and room for extra clothing and a little bit more extra space encase you want o bring some other essentials.
