Hi! This is Chris and on behalf of expertvillage.com in this clip we are going to talk a little bit about some of the fundamental basic of common sense in beginning hiking. The first and most fundamental thing is never hike alone. There is to many situations especially as a unexperienced hiker you may get yourself into and there is nobody there to help you out. So the buddy system works and applies very much in hiking. Another thing you want to do is come prepare with a map, a topographical map preferably of the area that you are actually going to be hiking. A topographical would help you with elevation as well general directions. Another vital piece of equipment for basic and common sense orientation is always bring a compass along. A compass would help you gather heading basic on your and the time of day to help get you to safety if absolutely necessary.
