How to Prepare an Oil Filter
Hi! My name is Dean and on behalf of expertvillage.com, in this clip we are going to install the oil filter. We have already taken the old one off and inspected it to make sure the O-ring came off with the filter and not on the block. We will also need to wipe that area off and have a clean area. We will need to prepare the filter to be put on. This filter is dry and this O-ring is dry right now. We want to take a little on your finger and just put a little film of oil around it. We want to make sure that it is clean just so that it is moist; it just has to be slippery. This will make tightening of the filter go on better and the removal would be easier and would help ensure that we get a good seal. I’ve got the filter area clean. I screw it on until it is snug and then you want to take about a quarter turn more. If you are putting it on by hand, put it on until you can’t turn it any longer. If you are using a wrench, which is what we took it off with, that is when you would want to go a quarter turn more to tighten it down. You really don’t want to over tighten it as next time you change your oil it will come off rather hard. I’m going to double check it. The filter is secure.
