To play a C7 in root position in the first position of the guitar on the top five strings. Place your ring finger on the 3rd fret 5th string. Your middle finger on the 2nd fret of the 4th string. Your pinky under your ring finger on the 3rd fret 3rd string. And your forefinger back here on the 1st fret 2nd string. And then just play the top string open. Play only the top five strings and your chord should sound like this.
