The Reach & Rip Technique for Offensive Line
Inside guy okay, because it’s wider play it’s going to be a bucket cross over, my technique is reach and rip okay, reach and rip the play side arm pit. Now what the uncovered guy’s going to do is he’s got to see the leg of the defender if the leg of the defender disappears then he know he’s not going to block him, he’s looking for the linebacker. If the leg of the defender stays or comes to him then he has a chance to reach and rip and get his partner off to the next level, okay and the key to this thing is a cross over step by the uncovered offensive linemen. He’s got a bucket and he has to cross over and turn his numbers to the boundary, if he steps into the line of scrimmage he’s got a chance to get picked and what picked means is a defender ends up on his play side shoulder and he can’t get him blocked, he’s got to reach and rip to make sure he has a chance to get to that play side arm pit. So that step has to be a cross over to the boundary and not up into the line of scrimmage.
