Shaping Gather for Glassblowing

Hi! I’m Jim McKelvey with Third Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis. You can check us out on the web at www.stlglass.com. Today, we’re going to learn about glassblowing for expertvllage.com. Now I’m going to shape my gather here. Just like we discussed in the earlier videos, I’m using a very light touch when I shape it with the blocks. Now, again, I’ve got the glass evenly shaped but it’s not even in temperature, so I’m going to wait a little bit. One of the nice things to do while your waiting is cool the pipe down. We’ve go a pipe cooler here. It just allows me to grab the pipe further down towards the tip, which is a good thing. It’s a good thing to use some time while you’re waiting for that temperature to even out.
