Empty Hand Samurai Spear DefenseMy name is Tom Cohen, martial arts instructor at Makato Dojo in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our website is www.martialartsnc.com. This next clip will demonstrate basic empty handed defense against a spear or staff strike. As your opponent is intending to strike you with a staff, step, grab the staff, and grab in between your opponent's hands, roll the staff forward at the same time, move your front foot and move behind his elbow to execute the throw.
