Preparing Butt Muscles for Massage

We will now move up to the hip area and to the gluteus muscles. Gluteus muscles are very large muscles in the hip. I'm going to have my client roll up just a little. Tuck the draping there and secure it here. In this case the client has chosen to leave their undergarments on. I'm going to just slightly ask them to lift their hip a little and I'm going to expose this area of the gluteus. The trigger points that you find in the gluteus muscle can be very sharp. Once again you would prepare the tissue the way you would any that you're working on before you do deeper work. I might do some effleurage and perhaps some deep cross fiber across the fibers of the glut. I'm using my thumbs to reach down along the iliac crest and bringing them up.
