Adding the Yeast: Learn How Wine Is Made

There’s still dirt on the grapes, there’s still other things in there. It’s not going to affect it because the yeast is going to do the chemical reaction and kill everything. So what we are going to do is we are going to pour this in there slowly and stir it around until it dissolves. Put that back in there. Now stir that up. Now it’s going to dissolve all the yeast. Now this here is enough yeast to make a full barrel of wine, which is a 50 gallon barrel of wine. What is enough yeast? About a 1/3 cup of yeast we use. Okay. There is a 1/3 of a cup of yeast and there is a 1/3 cup of the super food. Now what we are going to do is going to have you, take some grapes out of there, scoop it out and put them in there. We do this slowly because the grapes come in at roughly 35 degrees. We take them and keep them in a room and get them up to room temperature. But still when you have a large volume of something, the temperature doesn’t go through it but we try for 24 hours to get the temperature out. If you put your hands in here now, you can feel how cold that is. We need more grapes? We are going to do 3 buckets. We don’t want to put too many grapes. Ice cold. See that. Believe me now. We want to put about a half bucket because this has going to boil; it actually boils and you will find like the bubble spots of the boil like you make pudding or something and you see the bubble spots in it. This will actually boil overnight and we will show you later when we open up one of those buckets up there. That’s probably enough.
