Porcelain Inlay Instead of Root Canal

There's also other modalities where we can use porcelain. What we call inlay. And what this is that we shape that tooth. We take an imprint. Basically, let's say if the cavity is up in this area we cut away this portion, we take an imprint of that, we send it to the laboratory. The laboratory will bake a porcelain that follows the shape of the cavity. When we get that porcelain back we cement it. We glue it down into that space. And the porcelain is very, very strong and the seal is very precise. But again, the bottom line is it comes down to cost. Which would you rather have. Because when you do a silver filling or a composite filling it can be done in one visit or one hour or whatever that appointment time is. If you do a porcelain seal filling it's going to take two visits, sometimes three visits to get the work completed. And then also because you're using a third party, which is the laboratory that fabricates this filling for you, there's extra cost. So the cost difference is quite important and for the most part will set the decision on what material to use.
