Roll Over Dog Trick

Now we're going to do roll over. The progression with roll over is you need to get them in to a sit and get them down. Treat them in the down positions, until they're comfortable there. Once you feel that they're comfortable there, you can start taking them on to their side and start treating them there. You want to take this slowly because not every dog likes to roll over on to it's back. As he gets comfortable here I'm going to start bringing the treat towards his rear end so he starts to twist a little. As he twists he gets going over a little bit more. As the progression on this goes I want to start bringing the treat over and when the dog gets on his back I want to treat him here. He rolled over really good so I can go a little bit quicker on that one. "Good boy" and once he gets up, "Okay." Get him back up. Same thing, I want to roll him the other way so I'm going to bring it around his head, bring it over and tell him "roll over, good boy." Now that we have him on his side we want to get him to roll over all the way and tell him "Roll over." Get him to roll. "Good boy." I want to get him up on his belly so I'm not going to give the treat until I move him over a little bit.
