Common Root Canal Procedures

What we're going to talk about is how to do a root canal, in simplicity form. And so one of the first step that we do is when you look at the model, let's say the cavity has eaten it's way through the top portion where you see the black area. So what we need to do is remove the etiology that causes the root canal treatment. And one of the things that causes the root canal treatment is the cavity. The black area that you see. All that has to be removed. The way to remove it is using a high speed, going in there and cutting away all that debris that should not be there. And as we do, we go in and go down into the chamber of the tooth. Exposing the canal, the inner part of the canal. And once we do so we have instruments that we call files or reamers depending on the size and shape of the canal. We go in there using either a hand file or using rotary instrument mechanically to go in there and basically clean out the wall. Because we know these walls, microscopically, these walls are not smooth. The bacteria hides in the undercut. So we have to go in there and smooth out those surfaces. Get rid of all those bacteria. And once those walls are clean and shaped then we go in there and basically inject chemicals into the chamber. And that chemical is a disinfectant. It kills the bacteria. And once that chemical is injected in, it cleanses, it's flushed. Then we dry the canal and once the canal is dry then we put a very simple rubber based material to seal it. We know that material is able to seal out all the oxygen. Any opening. Because in doing so bacteria can't migrate or travel inward. And so that's a little summary of how to do a root canal. Because there's so many different companies that provide different steps. Different materials in doing the step by step of the root canal. But in general all the steps are exactly what we just talked about.
