Eyeglasses vs. Contact Lenses for Children

Glasses verses contact lenses for your child. We don't recommend children probably under the age of 11 going into contact lenses. Generally speaking, if your child has a problem cleaning their room, taking care of ordinary tasks around the house then I wouldn't trust them to put contact lenses in their eyes. You know your child the best so, can they take care of things, are they responsible enough. I mean these contact lenses are going to go into the child's eyes. They're going to have to clean them. So you know your child's level of responsibility to do those things. Again, we recommend 11 and up to at least start considering the contact lenses. The child really has to want to go into the contact lenses. If they're reluctant. I see it all the time. A child is reluctant to try them. A parent is really ambitious and thinks that their child is going to do fantastic with contact lenses. The child has to be willing to try the contact lenses. If they're not then this should be a null and void subject. But for somebody who is getting older, let's say they're in middle school, high school. They play sports. They're active. Their glasses keep on breaking. We are definitely going to recommend contact lenses for that child. Along with a set of back up glasses that they can come home and wear at night and do their homework. But for football, basketball, soccer, any type of athletics we recommend that they wear their contact lenses. You're not going to have to worry about glasses breaking. They're going to have better peripheral vision for those sorts of things. So that's really the general rule of thumb. Over the age of 11. Responsibility and what kind of activities are your children in. And if all those things read where they're active, they're old enough and I think they're mature enough. Then we should definitely try contact lenses on your child.
