Writing a Rap Song: Verse 1

Now we're going to talk about the first verse. With everything we've taught you, you just got to take some of your combined knowledge now and vibe with me. Because what we gone work on is the first verse. The first verse is the opening and catching verse, especially if your song doesn't start with a chorus, and goes straight into the first verse, your first two to four bars are crucial at this point because that's what's going to grab the listener?s attention. You want to...you got to instantly suck them. The first thing their going to here is the beat so immediately they are either bobbing their head or skipping tracks or just sitting there like this beats kind of whack. So you have to grab their attention as soon as you come in spitting. As soon as you come in, they are going to give you a chance probably for your first two to four bars. If you don't do something spectacular at that point, you're subject to get skipped. You might have a hot everything else on that song but, they will never take the time to notice because you didn't grab their attention. So, when writing your first verse, you want to always keep in mind how important the first verse is. You want to stay focused on your first verse and as your write bars just remember your first two to four need to be home runs. You get you Babe Ruth on. You need to point, you need to visualize and attack like Bobby Bouche.
