Differences in Brake Line Fittings

In this clip we're going to talk about the proper service procedure to inspect, remove, and replace your steel brake lines and bleed the braking system on a Ford Explorer. In this step we're going to talk about the difference in some brake line fittings. I have the fitting from the proportioning block on my truck and the fitting on the replacement line. Now as you can see there's a pretty big size difference. This fitting on my new line will not work in place of this one. This is a oddball metric fitting. What I'm going to do is reuse it. How I'm going to do that is I'm going to take a drill and drill out what's left of the brake line inside there, pop it out. I'm going to take my line cutter and cut the line and slide that fitting on with the hex nut toward the inside and then re-flare the line. That'll give me the right fitting on my new line. How you drill these out you just take and put them in a vice. This is a three sixteenths brake line so I'm going to use a three sixteenths drill bit. I got it here on my cordless. I'm just going to begin screwing into it. Alright I got the flare portion off. Now all I need to do is drill out the rest of the holes or there's a line for that matter. There we go, let me pick it up for you o you can get a good look at it. You can see where I got what was left of the line out just by drilling it, right there my fitting is ready to be reused. I'm going to take and use the same procedure for shortening the line to take and put my new fitting on. Like I said I'm going to cut this, slide the fitting on this way with the threads going toward the flare, the hex nut portion going toward the inside, and then re-double flare it. That is the proper way to drill out and reuse a metric fitting.
