How to Set a Car Up on Jack Stands

In this clip we're going to talk about the proper service procedure to inspect, remove and replace your steel brake lines and bleed the braking system on a Ford Explorer. In this step, we're going to talk about the proper way to jack the vehicle up, set it on jack stands in order to gain access to our steel brake lines. I have my heavy duty floor jack here. I'm going to to ahead and slide it underneath the vehicle and jack it up. All right. Before you jack the vehicle up, you're going to want to place a block of wood in front of the front tire, so it doesn't roll away for you as you jack the vehicle up. That's called chocking your wheel. That's the proper way to jack the vehicle up. What I'll do now is slip underneath and place my jack stands. All right, as you can see I have the cup for my floor jack load right on the big, thick steel casting of the rear axle. I'm going to take my jack stands and place them on the axle (indiscernible) right there. Your jack stands are adjustable, as you can see it adjusts right up to the height, and I'm going to set my other one. Once you have them set where you want, you can go ahead and release tension on your jack and the vehicle will sit down on the stands, right there. That's the proper way to place your floor jack, jack the vehicle up and set it on your stands.
