How to Mix Different Playing Styles Through Drum Fusion

Hi! My name is Frank, and what we’ll look at in this clip is just adding different styles into your one style; so you’re just fusing styles. Maybe it’s jazz and rock, which is a very common one, maybe it’s funk and rock, maybe it’s all three: it depends on the music you’re playing and what the music calls for. But if you can add different styles to your music, you’re going to be a little bit more of a versatile player, which is really good to be in the drumming world. Versatile is good; that’s why we have all the instruments in the first place. Let’s take a look at in combining the different styles from the other clips, 1 3 1 2 3…that wasn’t just one style, but that’s a lot of small notes, a lot of big notes, a lot of phrasing. I don’t think you’re going to hear that on the radio, but you’ll see it in the club, you’ll see it on the stage. It’s good to do; I encourage you to practice it at home too.
