Using Your Fists in Martial Arts

Now, let's move it down to another body part called fists. Now, take a look. Human body is very interesting. If you hold your fist like this, I'll assume that you're going to punch with the first two knuckles. Then, the last two knuckles will follow. So, most likely it is like this. This is the way to punch an object by using the first two knuckles. And, the last two knuckles follow. We call it straight punch. Now, another type of punch by using the vertical position. This is called vertical punch. In Tong Shu Du, in Kung Fu and Wing Chun we all punch like this. Why? Because, there are four knuckles. Especially, in some of the styles they emphasize on this type of punch. Take a look. First of all, the area is a lot bigger. They are even landing. Those knuckles can be even landing on the object. Now, we'll talk about a back fist. The back fist, this part is tough. Look at this, it's just like the back of a hammer or the down part of a hammer. It knocks down on the subject. Now, the hammer can go sideways. The hammer can go another sideways. Now, look at that again. Three angles at least. Now, next one the side. Now, we call this the eye of the fist. This one is a little bit weaker. But, only use this part for the throat for the chest or for the face. By the way, there are also two different types of fists in China. First of all, they call a Phoenix. The Phoenix eyes, this type of fist they go for pressure points. Go for the eyes, nose, mouth, cheek, ears, throat. And, the other type like I just said. This, we should call a mountain. The mountain fist, it has a bump in the middle. It goes for throat, eyes, chest, shoulders, stomach. But, it depends on whose stomach. If that guy has a six pack forget it. Don't use fist. And, we'll talk about it. Thank you.
