How to Use Digital Video Camera Controls

Now, after you have inserted the battery, the next important thing is to switch on your camera. If you see very closely the power switch has got four options. There's a small green switch. You have to press down this switch and if you pull it up, it will go to the VCR mode. If you pull it one step down from the off mode, it goes to the camera mode. And further down is the memory mode. Now the VCR mode is given to review your tape. Supposedly you have shot a couple of shots and you want to review what kind of shots you have taken. You place the power switch into the VCR mode. Then all the VCR functions get lighted up and you can rewind and forward, and stop and play your tape. Now if you push it to the off mode the camera and the VCR is off and it is used for charging your battery. If you switch it down to the camera mode, obviously, your camera gets switched on and farther down is the memory mode. Where if you want to record anything to the memory stick, you have to use this mode. Just on the right hand side of the jog dial, you will find a slot. This slot is for the memory stick. While you are recording, if you don't want to use the tape, you can obviously put a flash card in and record it on the memory stick directly. Just below the memory stick slot, there's another port called DC in. If you want to operate the camera on direct current you have to use this port. Now, let me show the inputs and the outputs of the camera. If you see carefully, you'll find an S Video port just on the right hand side of the camera. This is for the video signal to go out or into the camera. Just below the video port there are two more RCA ports, which is for the audio in and audio out. Now these two ports are used in separate channels. That is one port is used left and one port is used for the right channel. Just below the RCA ports there is another small port, which is called a DV1394 input and output. This is used while capturing video from the camera to your computer. In this camera there are three recording buttons. The first and the primary button is on the right hand side just where you place your thumb. The second button is just over the input and output ports and the third button is over the handle bar. After the video input and output, let me show you the audio input. In this camera there are two audio inputs. Both are XLR female. There's one channel one and channel two, which is also called the Input1 and Input2. In case you have one audio input, make sure you put it into Input1 and in case you have multiple audio inputs you can use both the channels. Most of the digital cameras will have their own camera mics. This is somewhat like this. Now the camera mic will also come with a port, which is called a 3-pin XLR male port. Make sure if you want to use this microphone while recording, you attach it to the Input1. The audio functionalities for this camera can be found in front of the handle, on the left hand side. This is used because we have got two channels as I have discussed earlier. You can record by mixing the two channels or you can also record by separating the two channels into left and right.
