Cutting Roses for a Rose Bouquet

Now that we've wired and prepped our roses, I'm going to show you how to cut them properly. Roses are very particular when their out of water for thirty seconds the bottom closes up. It's a very woody stem and it will literally close. So it's unable to drink water and of course the flowers drink lots of water they still are living. So the way that we are going to do this is under water. Today I'm using a vase to demonstrate how to properly cut the rose. You could do this in a sink you could use anything but you want to cut the rose under water. So first thing your going to get the rose under the water line and your going to use a knife do not use scissors because the scissors will pinch the bottom of the rose. So theres floral preservative already mixed in with my water and what your going to do is take the knife and what your gonna want to cut on a angle. So there we go. This is going to allow the rose to take up more water. If you cut in on an angle it has this much to drink though, if you just cut it flat it's limiting the amount of water that it can drink and that"s how you properly cut a rose.
