De-pressurizing a Coolant System

In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to flush your cooling system. In this step we're going to talk about the proper method for de-pressurizing your cooling system. First and foremost you want to make sure that the engine is cool and that you haven't just recently driven it. What will happen is, as the engine heats up the coolant inside of it expands and generates pressure. If you were to take and cut into your heater inlet line to make your flush connection with pressure on the engine, it'll spray coolant all over you and possibly scald you. What you're going to want to do is take and release the radiator cap. Like I said make sure the engine is cool before you do that. Once you have the system de-pressurized you can take your razor knife and cut the appropriate heater tube. And that is how to properly de-pressurize your engine's cooling system.
