How to Connect Wiring to an Anti-Lock Brake Sensor

In this clip, we're going to talk about the proper way to remove and replace a rear wheel anti-lock brake sensor on a late model Ford Explorer. In this step, we're going to talk about the proper way to re-connect your rear wheel anti-lock wheel speed sensor to the factory wiring. I have here, the connector, it's got a couple of retaining tabs on it. Right here and right here. I'm going to go ahead and slip it over to where the connector is on the vehicle and plug it in. You're going to want to listen for the click. Right there. Once you have the electrical portion connected and your new sensor installed. What you?re going to want to do is let the anti-lock braking system run its self diagnostics test. When you turn the key on, the computer that controls your anti-lock braking system is going to run a self diagnostic. What it'll do is test the self continuity of the wires and the integrity of the sensor you have just installed. It is possible to get a bad sensor or damage the wiring during service. What you're going to want to do before you take it and drive it away, is to turn the key on and make sure your anti-lock brake light does not come on. I'm going to go ahead and do that now. What we're going to do here is turn on the ignition and fire the engine to make sure that our anti-lock computer runs its self diagnostic test. The light is going to come on, as you can see, right there and it went out. What we're going to do is fire the engine. It'll run its diagnostic one more time, which will verify the integrity of the repair that we've made. You see the light came on, which is a bulb check to make sure the bulb works and it went out. That means the computer has ran its diagnostics and the system integrity has its full capacity. That is the proper way to verify that you've made the correct repair.
