Avoiding Insensitive Language in Public Speaking

Hey, we are talking about words and great word choices for that speech in public speaking. The last thing that I want to talk to you about, and this may be the hardest for you, is the use of insensitive language. This just kind of falls right on the heels of gender choices and stereotyping. Insensitive language is referring to individuals or collective groups of individuals as, I don't know, idiots. Everybody who likes baseball is an idiot or everybody who drives station wagons is stupid or everybody who eats at that restaurant is a moron. Okay, insensitive language is insulting someone based on their choices. Don't use it in public speaking. I've got a great idea of where you can use it, when you're driving. When you're driving down the road and no one can hear you and you're in your car you can feel free to use insensitive language but keep it out of your public speaking speech. We don't want to offend any audience members. Right? Right. So go out and make some great word choices.
