Using Slang in Public Speaking

Hey, we are talking about words and word choices in writing that great speech for public speaking. I want to talk to you for a minute about something really fun and not so fun. Jargon. Slang. OK. What I'm talking about is using language in your speech that is typical of your culture. OK. Like ah you might say, "Let me git that fer ya, y'all. Hmn. OK. That is something that we say here in Texas, y'all. Alright, where up up in New York where I come from they say, "Hey, yous guys. Yous guys. Get me a pop." What's a pop? Oh, OK. I know what a pop is it's a soda. No. OK. Alright. There's all these different words in all these different places. Like you've got Southern words. You've got Northern words. You've got East, West, Southeast, West, North, and all these different ways that people talk. And all these different words that they use to describe something. It gets very, very, very confusing. So you don't want to use words that can be considered slang or just atypical of a certain area. Alright. No jargon. No slang. OK? Got it? Good.
