Using Figurative Language in Public Speaking

Hey there. We are talking about great word choices for public speaking and I want to talk to you for a minute now about figurative language. The choices of words that you use should not necessarily be literal. Try to make them more imaginative. Okay, I'm going to give you a great example. We could talk about the candle that was burning, right, and that's very literal. You light them. They burn. The candle is burning. What about this? The flickering candle that was her life became a beacon that helped light the pathway and lighten the burdens of peoples all over the world. Okay. We can talk about candles burning. We can talk about people's lives and the hardships and overcoming them. Let's combine them together. Imagination. Use your words to create something that goes beyond the obvious. Now that's just like, almost like, poetry. But you can do it too. Think beyond the literal. Okay?
