Using Action Verbs in Public Speaking

Hey, we are talking about words and word choices when you're writing that great speech for public speaking. I want to talk for a minute about action verbs. Action verbs are something that you really should use when you're writing a great speech. Like you might think, well, we're going over there. But how are you going? Are you running? OK. So all of a sudden that action verb makes your speech more interesting. It takes it out of the abstract. If I'm talking about going somewhere, what are the million different ways that I could go? I could walk. I could run. I could drive. I could swim. I could boat. I could ski. I could skateboard. And on and on it goes. So give me an action verb specific so I can create a mental picture. That's what you want your audience to do. As you're speaking with your action verbs, you're wanting them to create mental pictures, seeing the scenarios that you're talking about in their head. You want them tasting the chocolate, feeling the sweat, smelling the grass. Mental pictures, OK? Words, all different kinds of words, evoke different images. Alright. The stronger your word choice the stronger the images the audience will be able to create. Therefore, the more they will relate to you the more they will stay with you as an audience member. And that's what we want.
